Opening An Account

Joining the Credit Union is the best decision you could take for your money.

To become a member of H&F Credit Union, you must live or work in the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham. 

Part-time work and volunteering is OK as long as you spend a minimum of 16.5 hours in the borough each week.   

We have to have proof of your identity when you become a member. To become a member you will need to provide the following:

1. At least 2 documents to prove your identity and address, such as:
   » Proof of Identity - Passport / Driving Licence/DWP Benefits Confirmation Letter/Tax Credit Award
   » Proof of Address - Recent Utility Bill* / Bank Statement* / Mortgage Statement/Council Tax Demand/Benefits Letter
2. Joining Fee - We charge a one-off £3 joining fee to cover the initial cost of membership. This fee will be deducted from your first lodgement to the credit union. Unlike high street banks, we do not charge monthly or annual fees.
3. Minimum Balance - In order to open and maintain an active account, all members must keep a minimum balance of £5 in their main credit union account.

*we cannot accept mobile phone bills or credit card statements.

Flexible & convenient loans
Members can take out flexible loans at competitive rates and repay at tailor-made schedules. All our loans are fully insured (for free) against death.

Attractive dividend on savings
As every member of the credit union is a part-owner of the credit union, we give the profits back to you at the end of the year. We aim pay an attractive dividend on members savings. At the end of our financial year we will write to all our members outlining our profits and let you know what the dividend will be for the year. Our aim is to grow to be able to pay a dividend of 4%* - the maximum we're allowed to pay out as a dividend is 8%.

You can be assured of friendly and professional service from H&F Credit Union at all times. And you do not pay a transaction fee for saving with us, or borrowing money.

Easy and friendly
There are many ways that you can pay safely and conveniently into your credit union savings or loan accounts. Options include:

1. Standing Order - You can set up a standing order between your bank account and your HFCU account. This is an easy way to grow your savings at a pace you control.
2. PayPoint - All our HFCU Member cards allow our members to pay directly into their HFCU account at any PayPoint outlet throughout the country. There are over 70 PayPoint outlets in Hammersmith and Fulham alone.
3. Payroll Deduction - In 2008, staff from Notting Hill Housing saved over £90,000 through a Christmas Savings Scheme run by HFCU via payroll deduction. If you would like to find out about saving with HFCU through payroll deduction, please contact us. It's safe, cheap and the easiest way to save throughout the year.
4. Benefits - Why not have benefits such as Children's Allowance paid directly to your local credit union. That way you it won't be hit by bank charges and it is a great way to build up your savings for a rainy day!

6. Online Services
   As a member of HFCU, you can now view your balance online, download useful information and loan application forms and make enquiries directly to our friendly staff in Fulham.
